Additional Outreach Opportunities
More Ways to Share Your Science
Educators
Lead a workshop for teachers. Share about your area of research, answer questions, and help dispel common misconceptions. Engage teachers in authentic research experiences. CRS provides training. Opportunities range from one-time, 1-2 hour sessions to year-long professional development projects.
Storytime with a Scientist
(30 minute outreach to Kindergarten - 2nd grade classes)
You can help bring science to life, and show connections to kids' lived experiences, by sharing a story featuring African American, Latinx, Native American, or other underrepresented men and women of color in science. Our list of Kindergarten through third grade books is growing, and we welcome your suggestions. (virtual or in person)
As a special "reward" for teachers who have gone above and beyond to bring awesome science learning experiences to their students, we would like to find scientists to match with about 40 elementary teachers for a series of "scientist buddy" (virtual or in person) visits to the class (approx 4 sessions?)
- Visit 1: Share about your science and get to know your class
- Visit 2: Science Lesson/Demo/Activity #1
- Visit 3: Science Lesson/Demo/Activity #2
- Visit 4: "Flip The Script" - Student Presentations to Scientist
We always get requests for help judging science fairs, planning school science events, and running activity tables at festivals. These events can happen both virtually and in person. Watch for opportunities in the email bulletin.
