One of the hallmarks of CRS is our commitment to building strong and impactful community partnerships. The homegrown, youth-led nonprofit Kits Cubed is one such partner. We joined forces in early March to bring an amazing day of science to every student at Oakland’s REACH Academy - 430 kids in 19 classrooms!
“Oh my, this day has been amazing,” said Principal Natasha Moore.
Throughout the day, teachers noted the active engagement, and focused behavior, of even students who often struggle with traditional learning. “Wow, this is the first time I’ve seen this learner so completely focused, and eager to keep learning,” noted one teacher.
Founded in April 2020 by then-Oakland Technical High School student Ahmed Muhammad, Kits Cubed brings hands-on STEM activities to Bay Area youth to make science fun and accessible. They have designed, assembled, and distributed STEM activity kits that allow budding young scientists to make a battery from a potato, crystallize rock candy, and more.
From the OUSD STEM Fair, to school-based events, CRS and Kits Cubed have teamed up to ensure Oakland kids have opportunities to meet STEM role models and try their hand at fun and thought-provoking science activities.
