What Happens To Our Dirty Water
After It Goes Down The Drain?
Using our wastewater system to
explore environmental literacy.
Workshop Date: March 25, 2021
Grades K-5
Presented By: Ben Lavender & Jan Robertson, Central Contra Costa Sanitary District
Together we used simple, household materials to observe what happens to our dirty water after it goes down the drain. Our session highlighted how we can use our wastewater system as a powerful tool to support environmental literacy. Teachers engaged in two of Central San’s distance wastewater-science lessons. These hands-on lessons are designed for K-5 students. Together, we actively explored how the stuff we put in our water (and down our drains) does not disappear.
