    Students Show Their Science

    2022-2023 Champions of Discovery:

     Highlights & Stories

    Reflections and Insights from Teachers

Students were excited about separating mixtures -- and learning about the phenomenon of dirty water polluting the Bay and how to clean dirty water. Each group tried to clean dirty water and ended up doing science fair projects about this phenomenon.
When we were taking the temperature outside of the soil in the water, after the first reading, kids were very excited and noticed how the soil was rising in temperature, but the water wasn’t. They were having real exciting discussions with each other about what they noticed outside. The students enjoyed graphing the weather for the last month. They were excited that we had more than "Just another sunny day". They liked looking at the high level of the creek by the school and the lake that formed on the playground.
At first, students weren't sure about where they could see science. However, once one student mentioned electricity and the students started to look around the classroom and see all the objects powered by electricity, they began to think about other aspects of science--how we get water, what water is made of, the weather, lightning, trees, animals, etc. Once they got going, they realized that science really is all around them.
