October 2021
Today’s kindergarteners are the high school graduating class of 2034. What challenges will they need to be prepared to face?
They may not all become rocket scientists or computer engineers, but they need to become innovators, leaders, environmental stewards, and scientifically literate members of the community. They will need to know how to bring fresh ideas and new solutions to a wide range of fields from food to space, from biomedicine to entertainment and so much more.
The pathway to bright futures for these children begins early, and it requires exposure to high quality science learning experiences and inspirational role models. As we emerge from this pandemic and rebuild stronger, more inclusive schools and communities, support for science teaching and learning will be more important than ever.
That’s why our work to empower today’s teachers and STEM professionals to bring science learning to life for the elementary and middle school children who are tomorrow’s scientists, engineers, environmental stewards, and scientifically literate citizens matters even more now than when we first started 25 years ago.
Encouragement, inclusion, and increased access to opportunity are the key elements of our efforts to broaden participation in science and engineering. Friendly, diverse and enthusiastic STEM professionals walk (or Zoom) into classrooms with a clear message for students and teachers alike:
“You belong! Science is all around us and you have unique, important ideas to help us all learn to understand our world.”
We’re honored that Community Resources for Science was named a finalist in the East Bay Economic Development Alliance’s 2021 Innovation Awards in the education category. The inclusion of an education innovation category illustrates the critical connection between strong schools and vibrant local economies.
Our focus is to ensure students in historically underserved communities have opportunities to experience wonder, exploration, discovery and inspiration — igniting curiosity, experiencing the power of ‘figuring out’ which is the same engine that drives the East Bay’s innovation economy.
We invite individuals and businesses to join us in building our future Champions of Discovery. Donate, sponsor, volunteer – we welcome you to the CRS team.
