Openings into Effective Teaching that Builds on Curiosity
October 2021 Today’s kindergarteners are the high school graduating class of 2034. What challenges will they need to be prepared to face? They may not all become rocket scientists or computer engineers, but they need to become innovators, leaders, environmental stewards, and scientifically literate members of the community. They will need to know how to bring fresh ideas and new […]
October 2021 Thank you to all of our partners & employee volunteers from East Bay companies and public agencies for your participation, donations, and support! What a year! Our private industry partners stepped up to our call to action and made it possible for thousands of students learning from home last school year to get their hands on real science […]
October 2021 Community Resources for Science leads a vibrant network, connecting educators with ever-changing resources available to enliven science learning opportunities. While we love to be together in person, sometimes virtual gatherings offer a chance to cover a lot of ground in one event. Such was our recent Saturday morning whirlwind armchair tour of more than a dozen amazing science […]
October 2021 When supplies for the 7th grade STEM mentoring program arrived at King Middle School, teacher Jay Cohen excitedly declared: “This is the best part of the year when the kids get to direct their own science experiments. They love it.” And, judging from the comments punctuating the hum of the classroom, the 7th graders agree. “This is […]
October 2021 Kids are back together in class, eager for hands-on science and engineering lessons! Our BASIS scientists are just as eager to keep the lessons going. While scientists in our Bay Area Scientists Inspiring Students (BASIS) program are still leading lessons remotely, the great news is that we can deliver science lesson materials to classrooms ahead of time so […]

The mission of CRS is to empower teachers and STEM professionals serving schools in historically marginalized communities to activate TK-8 students’ curiosity about the world, foster critical thinking, and inspire children to imagine future career pathways. We envision a community of educators, scientists, families and partners working together to build school cultures that equip all children to explore the world around them and build the skills needed to become innovators, problem solvers, environmental stewards, life-long learners and leaders. CRS leads a dynamic network, fostering relationships and collaborations that leverage expertise and resources to transform science teaching and learning toward greater equity, opportunity, and success for all students.
Our goal is simple: help teachers give students more opportunities to “do science” – to ask questions, test ideas, get their hands on real science activities. We need to inspire the next generation of thinkers, makers, problem solvers, and leaders!
