We spotlight Deborah Flanagan, CRS Science Super Star honoree, who teaches at Chabot Elementary in Oakland. Deborah worked to help her students build the ability to provide evidence for claims, and incorporated a collaborative learning style that would let students build off of their own strengths.
We spotlight Darlene Perdisatt, CRS Science Super Star honoree, who teaches at Chabot Elementary in Oakland. Darlene encourages letting her students interests lead the way to an all-encompassing and engaging science lesson.
We spotlight Miranda Romo, CRS Science Super Star honoree, who teaches at Chabot Elementary in Oakland. Miranda encouraged a collaborative style learning that benefited all students in a way that allowed them to explore how to reason their thinking.
We spotlight Anusheh Warda, CRS Science Super Star honoree, who teaches at Chabot Elementary in Oakland. Anusheh prepared a unit that would engage all of her students through a multistage lesson on salt saturation.
We spotlight Myrna Barrera, CRS Science Super Star honoree, who teaches at New Highland Academy in Oakland. Myrna uses science as an all encompassing tool to engage her students in learning.
We spotlight Enedina Sandoval, CRS Science Super Star honoree, who teaches at Global Family School in Oakland. Enedina and her classroom explored the lifecycle of mealworms, and throughout the lesson she ensured that all students were being able to make the most out of the lesson.
We spotlight Neila Willow, CRS Science Super Star honoree, who teaches at Franklin Elementary in Oakland. Neila is an avid science supporter, as as she can firsthand attest to the wondrous affects it has on her students. This past year, she tried to engage her students in science as much as possible, and connect it with all aspects of learning.

The mission of CRS is to empower teachers and STEM professionals serving schools in historically marginalized communities to activate TK-8 students’ curiosity about the world, foster critical thinking, and inspire children to imagine future career pathways. We envision a community of educators, scientists, families and partners working together to build school cultures that equip all children to explore the world around them and build the skills needed to become innovators, problem solvers, environmental stewards, life-long learners and leaders. CRS leads a dynamic network, fostering relationships and collaborations that leverage expertise and resources to transform science teaching and learning toward greater equity, opportunity, and success for all students.
Our goal is simple: help teachers give students more opportunities to “do science” – to ask questions, test ideas, get their hands on real science activities. We need to inspire the next generation of thinkers, makers, problem solvers, and leaders!
