CuriOdyssey | Build It and Break It! - In-Class | San Mateo | Build a wooden bridge and a paper tower, then test their strength until they collapse. Students will explore gravity, stress, and other forces that engineers have to overcome (or utilize) every time they construct a bridge or building. Let’s learn together as we build and break our very own structures. Also available as a field trip. |
CuriOdyssey | Wind Powered Vehichles - In-Class | San Mateo | This activity is propelled by a fan or the students themselves! Students learn about engineering, gasses, friction, sails, forces, motion, and energy. By creating a vehicle which can be powered by wind, students gain understanding of design, why we use wheels, why we might not, and attempt to build a vehicle which goes straight, far, and/or fast with limited materials. |
Habitot Children's Museum | Mobile Museum | Berkeley | Mobile Museum experiences are aimed towards TK – 3rd grade children as one-time or semester-based programs. Habitot will bring teaching artists and makers into schools to lead fun, hands-on art, science and design-oriented activities for 45-90 minute sessions. Teachers and after school programs can select from a number of art and maker-based activities including: Make and Launch a Rocket Gelli Block Printmaking Build and Float a Boat Create a Terrarium Make a Cape Spin Art Bubble Explorations and many more! |
Junior Center of Art and Science | Rocket Science: How Can We Use Air to Make Something Fly? | Oakland | Explore the states of matter, gravity, and energy in this exciting workshop where students will build, design, and test their rockets. Collaboration and inquiry are fundamental components of this class. |
Mad Science - Bay Area | Watts-Up! | Concord | Learn about electricity, its properties and its role in natural phenomena. Make indoor lighting while conducting hair-raising experiments with an electro-static generator |
NASA Ames Research Center | Speakers Bureau | Moffett Field | Volunteers from Ames Research Center are available to speak to your group about NASA, earth and space science, space technology, life sciences, and aeronautics. (does not include astronauts) huong.nguyen@nasa.gov. |
